College Green Civic Space Planning Submission

Plans for the College Green Civic Space proposal was submitted for planning in May 2017. The College Green Civic Plaza will become a ‘world-class’ space: a place at the heart of the city to be used and enjoyed by citizens and visitors alike, by adapting to the social, economic and environmental requirements of a twenty-first century European capital.

The civic space features a trapezoidal, granite-paved pedestrian priority space divided into ten bays. The space is lined with 22 new trees which frame the views of Trinity College and the Bank of Ireland. 32 new fountains are located to the front of the Bank of Ireland. Additional street furniture, cycling facilities and repairs to historic paving and monuments are also included as part of the works.

Paul Keogh commented on the proposed design: “We are aiming to create ‘Dublin’s living room’ – a place that is safe, adaptable and friendly for people of all ages, both for everyday social interaction and for major public events, comparable with world-class spaces of similar scale internationally"

The Environmental Impact Statement, plans and particulars of the proposed scheme will be available for inspection free of charge on the Dublin City Council website here.
