The Cornamona Court Redevelopment proposal was submitted into planning in August 2017.
The development proposed comprises: construction of 3 no. residential blocks – A, B & C – to provide a total of 61 no. dwelling units, surrounding an enclosed communal courtyard over a basement car park. The scheme acknowledges the desire to re-house senior citizens close to their support networks, near family and friends and within existing familiar communities.
Block A and B will be five and four storeys in height respectively and face onto Kylemore Road. Block C, located to the rear of the site, will comprise a two storey terrace. The site strategy seeks to re-instate a street edge along Kylemore Road.
Building close to the line of the pavements with stepped entrance porches and windows overlooking the streets, upgrading paving, providing new street trees and improving lighting are all part of the strategy to create animation and natural surveillance, creating a safer public realm and improved connectivity around the site.
Active ground floor residential edges are proposed, with the Common room facility at the site south east corner. Glazed stair core entrances offer views through to the communal garden, and recessed entrances to ground floor houses, create a private threshold and provide a buffer to the street.
